James Mills Borders (Pop), his oldest sons, his brother Philete, along with other relatives and friends, built the nine-room house with rocks gathered from the property.  The house had a large enclosed back porch, kitchen, dining room, living room and 2 bedrooms downstairs. Upstairs were 4 bedrooms and a long hallway. A porch with high walls extended all the way across the front of the house. There was a large basement where all sorts of things could be stored.
